Rwanda will hold presidential elections on August 9, 2010. While Presidential elections in 2003 and parliamentary elections in 2008 were orderly and peaceful, Rwandan authorities informed us in the wake of grenade attacks that took place earlier this year that they have increased patrols and police presence to ensure security for these elections.

On May 15, 2010 two grenades exploded in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, killing two people and wounding 27. At approximately 7:30 p.m. local time, the first grenade detonated in a commercial district of Kiyovu. Several minutes later, another device detonated at the Nyabugogo taxi station.
